What is the BLIA?

Big Lake Improvement Association (BLIA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to keeping Big Lake healthy, clean and vibrant. We were formed in 1956 by a group of residents and lake supporters, and our mission has remained true ever since. Our members are dedicated to preserving the lake and its environment, as well as providing an array of volunteer and social opportunities. Join us and become part of the movement to keep Big Lake thriving!

What We Do

Beautification

The majority of BLIA resources fund activities associated with the beautification of the lake and surrounding areas. Through the hard work of BLIA volunteers the historical Catron Cemetery on Diamond Lane and the park on Fairlane Drive are part of beautification efforts ensuring important Big Lake community spaces continue to thrive.

Building A Community

At the Big Lake Improvement Association, we are devoted to connecting homeowners in the area and creating a strong sense of community. Our members benefit from a variety of services and social events which are funded by membership fees.

Protecting Resources

The Big Lake Improvement Association (BLIA) is here to help our community keep its beautiful lake healthy and thriving. We partner with the Village to pump water from the mighty Missouri River into Big Lake, maintain the pump and its associated tubes, ditches and purchase diesel fuel to keep the pump running. Our amazing volunteers make this possible. Join us and help keep Big Lake a safe and enjoyable place for all!

How to Become a Board Member

As an organization, we are committed to involving as many members of the community as possible in decision-making. Our Board Leadership is elected by our members each year, and the only requirement to run is that you must be a current BLIA member. In August each year, the Board will announce how many seats are up for election, and request that anyone interested in running contact them. The vote will then occur at the October meeting.
